I am running into a lot of incorrectly installed liners. It seems that people fail read the instructions when installing the liners. Liners are supposed to be slightly too long so that when you install the diffuser you have to push against the liner. If you trim the liner to gun length what happens is there is a small gap between liner and the diffuser which encourages wire jams and poor feeding. In one place I even was "instructed" by the head machinist on how to install liners. After the little lecture I understood why they had feed problems and were always replacing liners thinking that the liner was bad. One man, ten wire feed machines and ten problems. If you have never installed a liner, don't open the package and throw away the instructions. On some Lincoln equipment they even give you a little gauge. It must be important if they include a little extra piece of metal. End of rant.
Reply:On my Lincoln wire feed, the instructions said to take off the gas diffuser, cut the liner about 3/4" longer than the end of the gun, then reinstall the gas diffuser. That's after the liner's other end had been secured in the correct position. No more feed issues after I did that. But my liner had a bunch of kinks in it.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I had feed issues with my gun when I first got it - bought my Miller 252 used, with a ProFax 25' gun. I thought it was odd that the liner was cut off about 6" before the bend on the gun, and the wire was rubbing a good groove in the bend part of the gun.I replaced the liner, but the liner did not have any instructions with it. I noticed that the gun had a set screw up near the gas diffuser. I made my 'new' liner long enough to be captured by the set screw - well past the bend of the gun. No more feed problems. Reply:Just looked in my Lincoln manual, it says 1 1/4" longer than the end of the gun with the gas diffuser removed. Even showed a picture of it.Maybe copy a page of the manual of the machine & post it alongside it?MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build |
