During the course of building a utility trailer I needed to do some welidng on the two light posts for the rear of the trailer. I had bought these posts with the wiring harness and lights. Turns out the company cut out the oval hole for the signal light to large so needed to infill the hole a little. Since I'm only a hobby weldor did not have a large supply of different size welding rod for the Tig machine. Well I recently had to pull out 12 ft of 35thous wire from my Mig welder when the spool emptied out. Then the Eureka moment I took 3 ft of wire doubled it up held one end in the vise and the other end in a drill spun it up for a few seconds and voila welding wire thick enough to use on this 1/16th material instead of heavy rod I had. Worked great. I'm sure some of the more experienced people have done this but I thought I'd post for those of us beginners and hobbiest that here was a way to essentially reuse some scrapped welding wire. Anyway here are a few pictures of the part I had to weld. First picture is the Lightpost and the small pieces that needed to be inserted. You can just see the twisted wire on the upper left side of the pictureSecond picture is a seam that needed welding. You can see the remains of one of my twisted filler wire bottom left of pictureThird picture is the two light posts completed.
