My 99 Dodge was in for an oil change I saw this.I had my son make up a patch out of 1/4 X 1 and 1/4 x 2" plate and a porta band.Machine is a miller passport with .030   wire,   and I think he used Co2. Spray can of NAPA rubberized undercoating. He did both sides. took  less than 2 hours.David R
Reply:Thats not rust. It's a lightening hole to save weight! .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:but welding probably did a number on the rubber bushings... the whole hanger oem with new bushings is only like $45 brand new... then all you have to do is deal with the rotted bolts miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:How many were bad as it looks like the first picture is of the left side and the attemped repair is of the right side? I gota go with turbocad6, replace them with OEM. Just my opinion.
Reply:Man where do you live, sea side I have the same make and year truck, my spring hanger does'nt look anything like that.  If you don't want to buy OEM, get some from a wrecking yard.
Reply:I had to give my son something to do and we had the time.  Its done.I have done many of those using OE or Aftermarket most all of them on Fords including both of mine.Hopefully the repair will last another 2 years, by then the whole truck will look like that spring hanger.Left and right looked the same at the start and when done.....Wrecking yard ones would have looked just like mine  before we started.David R  (Fred Sanford)Today we changed the oil and greased it.  Next oil change due 218000 milesLast edited by David R; 01-10-2011 at 07:44 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Great to have a son, huh?  Did a couple little projects the other night with one of my sons.  Not worth taking pics of but sure was a nice evening.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:What's wrong with Seaside?  They have a great bumper car ride and kite store.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:My son has completed his first semester of welding at Alfred state college.  He has passed a bend test with 7018 and 6010.  He may have my business some day IF he wants it.David
