1/8 and 3/32 rod 105 and 85 amps rod cant remember the brand3/16 sheet in the tank and for the patchGot a call from customer first thing this morning "we had a little oops this morning can you come by and see if you can fix it?"The patch wound up 3 ft tall and 8 ft long.I havent ran much stick alunimum at all but the customer was in a bind. These trucks haul feed for cows and with snow on the ground around here that is a high priority.Very interesting stuff to run.Enjoy
Reply:I like it.. The truck boom saves from having to use ratchet straps. I remember tying aluminum rod back in school, but never really got any time on it to get the hang of it. Next time, you might want to round the corners a bit to keep it from cracking out too easily.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:i have no experience with aluminum, but my ears are open.. i know it requires more heat than steel and am surprised that 1/8 rod will burn at 105 amps....seems the setting i hear for tiggin ally go a lot higher...congrats on helping the customer, thats the name of the game......
Reply:Nice repair. This answers a lot of questions I have had about aluminum stick rod. A couple questions:Did you roll the plate beforehand or tack it to one side, bend it around, and weld the other side?Is there a reason you left a vertical seam in the middle of the patch? |
