Short version; Miller demo'd the diversion, I was impressed, bought it, started practicing on 6061 3/16" plate.Detailed Version;I know most had suggested that I take a look at the thermal arc 185 but I went with the diversion not just based on price though. First thing is that westair demo'd the diversion for me and even though the guy could not TIG I gave it a try and was happy with my first try at Aluminum. I still was not convinced though because I needed to see what the diversion could do in the hands of an experienced TIG welder. So I contacted customer service at Miller and told them about my issue; I had heard that Miller customer support is top notch compared to anything and this was proven when a DM from miller came down to demo the diversion for me. The guy was very professional and had impeccable interpersonal skills (I wish I was able to interact with people of this caliber at work but unfortunately I have to deal with crazy people). So I got a decent deal from West air, took a look at the included blueprints for the cart and decided to design my own, welded up the cart yesterday and painted it today and got started on some 6061 welding; I was using 3/32 2% ceriated tungsten with a sharp tip, 15 CFM argon, 3/32 5356 filler on 3/16 plate. The finger control takes some getting used to but I have the foot control on order. This is after less than one hour of TIG experience so go easy; |
