1950 Monarch/ 1920 Harley Peashooter Board Track Racer replica

A couple of weeks ago I had a customer bring me a 1950 Monarch Bicycle to me for a few modifications. He is into the old motorcycles that used to race on tracks made from wooden boards and wanted to make a replica out of this old bike he found at a yard sale recently.I had to take the decorative looking replica gas tank and make it into a real gas tank and then he wanted the pole that holds the seat moved all the way back to just in front of the rear fender and fill in the existing hole that housed the seat pole.1st. step was to unscrew the 2 halves of the fake tank to remove it from the bike frame. Next was to fill in the holes that used to have some sort of a medallion snapped into it. There were some metal tabs on the back side that I cut off and just made a small patch to fill in the holes.Tank was then fitted with a pipe nipple for the fill neck and a coupler was welded into the bottom for his fuel line to attach. I found a brass cap to use as a gas cap. The two halves of the tank were then placed back into position on the bike frame and welded to it making the frame and the tank one complete piece.Once the tank was done and checked with air for leaks I moved on to mounting the seat pole to the rear section of the frame. A small circle was cut and shaped on the anvil part of my vice to fill in the hole left from the original placement of the seat pole.He also brought me a piece of copper pipe that he made a template with for routing the exhaust the way he wanted it to go, I had to cut the flange off the exhaust pipe he supplied and make a new piece with some 1" tubing and weld it back together.The customer sent me an e-mail today with some of the pictures of the finished project and said he will be bringing me another frame in the next couple of weeks so he can make one for his wife to ride around on.Pictures will take two posts to complete the thread. Reply:Thanks for the comments guys, but I can only take part of the credit on this one, the owner gets all the credit on the coolness factor achieved in the finished product.He called this morning to see if I got the pictures in the e-mail and to tell me about the next one he wants to build. The second one is again a 1950's vintage bicycle, this one may be more of a challenge as it's a girls bike and some tubes will have to be moved and / or made to fit. This second one will also need a complete fuel tank built from scratch, shouldn't be too difficult as the picture he is working from has a square type of tank that he want's me to try and replicate. Should be a fun build and will have pictures aplenty as the build goes. For now I just gotta wait for the frame to arrive, he said it would probably be a week or two before he drops it off to me.I am what I am, Deal with it!If necessity is the Mother of Invention, I must be the Father of Desperation!
