3/32 6011 on clean metal. 40 amps3/32 6011 on dirty metal 40 amps1/8 6013 on clean metal 80 amps1/16" 6013 at 30 ampsI'm sure I am trying to do to much.  My starts and stops on most of these beads are bad, build up heavy to begin then crater at the end.  Still think overall was a bit better than yesterday.

Reply:I wouldn't exactly call that clean metal. You should grind it till its shiny clean metal. That metals also so thin its going to be difficult to learn on. See how the begining of your welds start very cold and by the end are on the verge of blowing through? The metal just heats up too fast for stick. And the last consistent weld is waay too cold
Reply:you're comin' along. just don't expect it to happen overnite. keep practicing and keep the arc tight. the shorter the arc, the less heat, relatively speaking of course.and once you've mastered arc control consistently, then start playing w/ amp changes.i think once you have the arc control, then you'll find you don't need near the amps you think you do.                                        mikeLast edited by mla2ofus; 01-03-2011 at 08:52 PM.Ol' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Those amp ranges sound low to me, but if you crank your welder up, you may blow through your thin material. You might want to get your "clean" metal cleaner. Flap discs (Angle grinder wheels with sandpaper on them) take rust/paint/etc off faster than anything else that ive ever used. You also seem to be going to fast to me, but im no expert. Looks like you're having fun :-)[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:would appreciate if SR20steve or anyone experienced would explain a bit what are the signsof :"begining of your welds start very cold" "by the end are on the verge of blowing through" - I guess you mean too hot/too slow"last consistent weld is waay too cold"-learning on my own/can't see/tell the signs
