Powcon 400SM worth?

I have a chance to buy a PowCon 400sm with the wire feeder and cart and gas regulator.  I was jsut wondering what the things worth.  I have a few millers but have no clue about the PowCon's I have heard from a few people that they are decent welders just wondering what everyone on here thiks the set-up is worth and how good a welder it is.  Thanks for all the info.
Reply:Isn't the 400 three phase??Years ago, I had a couple 200s, always thought they were fine machines.   No idea of value today, though.
Reply:After doing some research I believe the 400sm can be switched to single phase 240v .  I read a post on another site that says you just have to unhook the red wire and tape it back inside the machine and change the plug out on the other end.  Not sure if the info is correct but hopefully someone will chime in and let me know.
Reply:Hello Ohio Ironhead, the Powcons are the front runners of the inverter welding power sources and really are decent machines. Parts might be the only real issue with them. I do understand that there is an outfit in California that does provide parts, I believe I recall others on here who have the specifics of their name and such. I would look to see what voltages this machine operates on. Many of them were 1ph/3ph and capable of connection from 208V through 480V, however, there were some that were only the 460V/480V or possibly 575V, as long as you don't run into that you should be able to readily use that machine for your application. Price wise, I have seen folks trying to sell these for similar prices to a Miller or Lincoln Inverter, they are not worth that sort of money. In my neck of the woods(Pacific Northwest) I have seen them range in price from $600.00 to $2500.00, I wouldn't give more than probably $650 to $700 personally, but that's just my opinion. Best of luck to you, if you end up with it and it is mechanically/electronically sound you will have a machine that is capable of welding just about anything you might come across. Reply:the feeder is a powcon feeder.the machine is in good condition.I'm probably looking to resale it since I already have all the welders I could ever use.  If anyone is interested let me know and maybe we can work a deal.

Reply:Thanks DR33 I will try to get ahold of him.  I went and picked up the welder tonight and cant believe how nice of a welder it is.  I got the powcon400sm, powcon wire feeder, 50ft of leads for it, a regulator and a welding cart.  I'm going to fire it up tomorrow and do a little welding but I still think I'm going to end up selling it and sticking with my old millers.
