can regulators be rebuilt? I have a set of old Gasweld(I think that's the brand) That could use some attention. Does anyone know where I can have them done? WDO
Reply:PM OAdoctor here. Thats what he does.Depending on the reg, it's often not worth the price to rebuild cheap ones. You pay almost the same money to buy new ones. OAdoc can let you know if yours are worth spending the money on or not..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Hi whitedogone If you go to the User CP block on your screen you'll find that you can enter useful info about yourself. As said knowing your location will allow members in your location area to proviide you with info on a shop that maybe able to rebuild your regulator.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:...Most welding stores I've dealt with send the regulators out to the manufacturer or an authorized repair center, due to liability. Not likely anyone will sell you the parts. I just had a single stage Victor oxygen regulator repaired....$30....$14 for parts, $16 labor...it looks like new...new plastic covers on the two gauges, and replaced the high pressure seal and seat in valve body, also the fabric/rubber diaphram, all metal parts glass-beaded...Airgas NCN...a Radnor dealer here in Sacramento, Calif....about 10 working days turnaround. I've had quite a few regulators repaired, oxygen, acetylene, C02 and argon......they always come back looking/working like new...and price is pretty decent. All have been the Victor brand equipment....they don't cost too much to repair, due to the large volume they sell/fix.Dougspair
Reply:Thats interesting dougspair, I talked to the Airgas shop in Grass Valley a while back about repairing/rebuilding a set of Victor A/O Regulators and they said it cost almost as much as a new set of Radnor regs. They didn't qoute the price of repair.... Right about now, my leg is feeling longer than normal...
Reply:Definitely check around. I have a couple of sets of two stage regulators, one victor and another I think is harris sourced but overall it's worth fixing a good regulator. I've never paid over $60 bucks to have a full rebuild and mostly less. Ask your local weld supply where they send regulators and torches for rebuilds, there's typically a local guy who does rebuilds of both. Torches are a big rebuild item and often there's a guy near buy that does it well. In Houston we have a couple of great places so check around and don't pay big dollars for a lower quality piece of junk; get your good regulator rebuilt and it will last a long time.PS: regulators over 10 years old do need rebuilt due to deterioation of the seals and diaghframs so get it done it's worth the price.jbman45Century 230A AC/DCLongevity 200 Multifunction MofsetLongevity 200PI Multifunction IGBTVictor Oxy/Weld&Cut5HP 2 stage compressorTractor; tools and 40 years of collecting fine tools.
Reply:Originally Posted by OAdoctorThanks Guys!I think Gasweld is a private label regulator, like craftsman. PM me a picture of your regulators and I can give you a firm price to rebuild. Most Single stage regulators will cost between $35.00 and $50.00 to totally rebuild. Thanks,Jim
