I am trying to set up a purge setup so I can weld some stainless tubing and ferrules and such. I want to run a second flow meter off of my argon tank. I have a second flow meter and I ordered what I thought was a "Y" connector but it turned out to be a fitting for the outlet of the flow meter.  I want to Y off between the tank and flow meter so I can have better control of the gas flow to the torch and the back purge line.  Anyone know where to get one online or at least what size the fitting is or what to call it?  A Google search turns up the fitting I already have. I tend to work the typical hours a LWS is open so I prefer not to have to take two days off to get this thing, if it even exists.ThanksBernieHobart Handler 180HTP Invertig 201Longevity LP40D pilot arcGeneric O/A rigLots of hammers
Reply:Try Western Enterprises. They have an online catalog out here somewhere. One of these days I need TIG cooler to NPT fittings, so I need to look them up anyway; guess I'll do it now.Hang on a minute.Good LuckEDIT - I'm backHere: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Western+Enterprises Last edited by denrep; 09-23-2009 at 08:22 AM.

Reply:Here are a couple of ways you can make your purge line. First is with both of the lines running off of one and the other pics show it with a set up for 2 regulators/ flowmeters. Can't really help much with part numbers as I have had these for many, many years. Maybe the pictures will help identify the parts for you. Reply:One regulator and dual flometers is the best because the flo rates are different. JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:This is how I do it. All the fittings came from the LWS.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:This is what I use.  Cost me $300 I think, could have been $350. Attached ImagesMy name's not Jim....
Reply:"They use the same picture with several fittings. Don't I want the Female fitting?"You want the fitting with the "leg" of the tee being the Male, and the two female fittings that are machined in the hex bar stock. TWO CGA-580 females and ONE CGA-580 male is what ya want.Just order by part number.  312-T-92 if ordering from Reliable. National Welders/Airgas sometimes has slightly different part numbers but they carry Western fittings.I use a bunch of that specific part at work for dual regulator setups and with pigtails to manifold bottles. Since you can connect more than one together, you could keep adding regulators as you like.(The other fitting in the advertisement pic is an acetylene tee, note the notches in the nut.)Last edited by farmall; 09-30-2009 at 09:03 PM.
Reply:Thanks guys.  I finally got by a Praxair store and got them to order me a T for 30 bucks.  It is just called a T-92 on the box. I ordered a Flowmeter from HTP via E-bay for about 30 also.  So this will be a good bit cheaper than the 350 bucks for a dual control meter. Now I am almost ready to make those really pretty stainless welds (HA!!)Hobart Handler 180HTP Invertig 201Longevity LP40D pilot arcGeneric O/A rigLots of hammers
Reply:Is 75/25% Argon/CO2 an acceptable back purge gas?  If so this will simplify my set-up i.e. I won't need a T-fitting from my argon tank.  I'll use Argon for the TIG torch, and use my MIG tank and regulator for the back purge.Racecar FabricationOld Miller 320 A/BP TIGMiller 140 MIGwww.f-bodysport.com

Reply:Dave, any technical reason 75/25% argon/co2 wouldn't work for back purge? it'll displace the oxygen, and the welding arc isn't running through it, so it shouldn't affect arc characteristics. Just asking, i've only ever used argon myself.

Reply:Didn't realize the the co2 would react with heat. I knew it reacted with the arc, splitting into C and O2 then recombining. always thought it was an electrical reaction, not thermal. learn some thing new every day. I didn't think of the posotive pressure, thats what happens when one asks questions in the middle of the night.
