After 7 years of towing a small trailer there seemed to to be a lot of right to left and up and down slack between the draw bar and the receiver. So my idea was to buy a 5/8" hardened bolt and nut.1/2" would probably do.I drilled a 5/8" hole in 1 side (right) of the receiver, put the bolt & nut in the hole, clamped it in and welded the nut to the receiver. Then I removed the clamp, backed out the bolt, inserted the drawbar. installed the lock, tightened the bolt and painted it black. Now the hitch is as solid as if it was welded on. And yet the hitch is easily removable. Attached Images
Reply:cool good thinking.... the only thing i did with my hitch was i welded some chain to my pin and clip cuz im not the only one who uses my truck and everyone seems to loose the pin/clip and evryone says it wasnt me so i weled them right on there (i do not use the key type pin that you have) and i have a dolley with 1_7/8a car trailer at 2 and a big trailer for what ever machine i may be towing at 2_5/16...... i should really invest in one of those 3 in 1 draw bars. |
