I got a new mig and a bottle of gas but I'm having problemswith fitting the hose  The hose came with twocopper sleeves which need to be crimped on each sideto hold the hose.On the mig there is an electronic valve with a protrudingstraight nipple, The valve is fastened to the mig with a thin nut. On this end, I can push the reinforcedhose on and could have a go at crimping, butthe problem is on the other end.At the regulator, there is a nipple fitting which is barbedon one end and is screwed onto the regulator at the other. The barbed section has 2 protrusions and a straight part nearest the regulator, where the copper sleeve should go -I suppose.Try as I may, there is no way I can push the hose rightupto the straight part of the fitting - it goes barely overthe second protrusion of the barbed part - is there anythingI can do to "lubricate" the hose or heat it or somethingto get it on ?I'm tossing around the idea to throw these fittings awayand install something like on my Fronius TIG - fittingswith rubber seals which you lightly screw on - moneybuys happiness sometimes
Reply:soapy water. then blow out the hose before hook up. you should be fine. Don't go crazy with the lube or you'll have trouble holding onto your hose (snicker). There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Nipples, nuts, cant push it in, wow this thread is filthy! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:If the hose is plastic, try dipping the hose end in a cup of boiling hot water that has a little soap added."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Thanks for the replies - newbie fright got the better of me- gases/pressure/reactions - better to ask than to be sorry.I pushed the hose on a little, dunked the nipple/hosein hot water and was able to push it on
Reply:Like a woman, a little soapy lube makes the difference...unless it involves oxygen...then you might go out with a bang...which would make for an epic obituary! But you didn't hear it from me!
Reply:Couple more related questions:(a)1.jpg,3.jpg and 4.jpg are photos of the regulator, where the hose is to be connected and the coupling.2.jpg. is a photo of the connection on the mig.In the next post you will see the hose/connectorsand regulator connection of my tig. The "nipples"in the tig connector have an O-ring around themand just need to be lightly hand tightened. Is the mig nipple also supposed to have an o-ringhave I lost it as after tightening the connection, there is still a slight leak ?(b)Does it make sense to go for similar connectionsas on the tig (or is the o-ring the problem) ?(c)At the start of opening the main valve on thecylinder, there is the sound of gas coming out and asI open the valve further, this stops, then the gas isheard again, increasing as I continue to open thevalve until fully open - is this normal (haven'texperienced this initial gas flow on the tig argon bottle) ? Reply:I lube my hoses and quick connects for my gas lines with mig Anti Spatter spray
Reply:I'm not that familiar with European gas fittings, but your first photo of the MIG connector looks like a metal-to metal seal, which does not need an O-ring. Most North American welding gas connectors are of this type. However, if either of the seating surfaces are damaged or poorly made, they will leak. Look closely and see if there are any deep scratches or other defects on the mating surfaces. If a reasonable amount of tightening does not stop it from leaking, you may need a replacement fitting. As to question c, the sound of rushing gas is normal, just pressurizing the insides of the regulator and hose. Don't know why you haven't heard it on your TIG regulator. If the sound continues steadily after a couple of seconds, you have a leak!JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
