I live off grid out in the weeds up here in gods country, North Idaho, and some years we get alot of snow and some years not so much, but we have 2 miles of road to plow and pickup plows just dont get it all winter, I have been researching snowblowers on line for about 2 years and finally want to build a 8 footer to go on the front of my old int. 1 1/2 ton tk. have a 250 hp.ford motor to power it with, and I guess my question is has anybody ever build one, or have any good ideas,i want to build a 2 stage single fan design. some of you guys are just plain amazing as what you can come up with, thanks in advance. I dont get online very often so ill check it when ever i get to town.If you see me running for no apparent reason, try to keep up:"Reality" What a concept!Miller Big 40 {1972} vintage, with 150 ft. of 000 leads, old Alaskan pipline welder.
Reply:You may check out the v-plow type with the fan in the back. That might be the easiest to build and I'd bet 30hp or maybe a bit more would run it. They can be found cheap used too. Or is that what you were talking about? Attached ImagesMy name's not Jim....
Reply:those drag type are ok for finish work on roads but if this works this pic is more what i had in mind. alot bigger then i was going to make it, but would be fun to operate. Reply:I think you should build one. Then I can copy yours for a smaller version to fit atv 4-wheeler. just my 2 cents. I think I would get and old tractor blower and modify it to fit your power plate, and truck.good luck, and keep use posted. Daye

Reply:how about a gearbox off an old brush hog or piece of farm equipment?..when you get the design going Ill copy it too for upstate..mabe a new section on this forum for home made equipment listed alphabetically..also try a magazine called farm show they have all kinds of neet equipment built from old equipment and parts.http://farmshow.com/
Reply:Oh, just call Vermont or Alaska DOT or similar and get the specs on their road snowblowers. http://www.kodiaknw.com/snow_removal.phpOr maybe some railroad snowblowers.http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevharb/3608991580/http://www.flickr.com/photos/pt737swa/2651917944/http://www.flickr.com/photos/bob_butcher/2373864811/http://www.alaskarails.org/ARR-snow-fighting.htmlhttp://www.northeast.railfan.net/plow2.htmlSure, lots of ideas and ways to Git-R-Done.Maybe a scrapyard Ford 9 inch diff to spin the augers. Put your transmission of choice between your engine and the auger diff. Have another tranny in there to tap off of to get a faster rpm to the fan/blower section. Make housing, make augers (not quite so easy), figure out shear pins, make blower fan, make chute, make adjustment mechanism for chute. Add skids and scraper blade. Add lights, bells, and whistles. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:This might help you out He Goes through the whole build in this thread:http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/b...wer-plans.htmlCheers Felonps We like pictures when the build startsCaution lurker lives here" hmmm That is serious, pass the ganja and pick up a 24 of MGD"
Reply:thats some BIG A$$ snow blowers
Reply:Some shops making agricultural /feed mill equipment stock auger material in RH and LH. You might ask around. I have seen diameters up to 14 inch.
Reply:I was involved in a similar build a few decades ago. We used a silage blower for the throwing impeller and scrounged the auger flighting and gear boxes from junked combines of various makes and model. that one was mounted on the front of a tractor. It worked well and is still used today when ever the drifts get big enough to call for it.RogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:thanks guys. first as soon as i can find it again there is a site that has a gobbbb of info on how to build flighting, augers, sawdust screws, u name it its on there, but,,,,, i have to find the link again. old puter went south and i didnt get all the info saved. auger gearbox is not a big problem, a ford ranger, bronco rear diff is the right size for what i want to build. i'll put a few pic i have of blowers on here. as for atv blowers they make a bunch that fit atv. the atv one is a ariens product, the big one is from europe, 5000 tons an hour it will move with a small 750 hp. turbo cat to drive the blower and a 350 hp cummins to run the truck. The bottom pic is of a truck and blower called a slug blower, from germany, but the truck was caught my eye!! different. I will take pic as we start to build. really thank you all for your interest. Reply:got ahead of myself. i use a 28 inch ariens walk behind with a 8hp , just rebearinged it this winter i have used it so much. The atv style blowers i have been around most of them push from the trailer hitch on the back. A friend of mine built one for his atv and mounted it on the front, like the snow plows mount and put 8' caster wheels on the back side of the blower and uses the winch to rock the blower back on the caster wheels to raise it. That way the atv doesnt have to carry the total weight of the blower. mann i got long winded tonight, lol. Reply:I've seen some big ones sell on GSAuctions for cheaper than you could probably build anything for. I've bought some stuff from them and everything has been better than advertised. You just have to be patient and wait for what your looking for to come up. Government loves to spend money and always replacing stuff. |
