Welding Table Plans

I was searching for welding info and came across some info for a welding table that I thought might help people. I like the idea of the plasma/torch attachment. You can also download the plans in a pdf document. http://www.millerwelds.com/interests...welding-table/
Reply:I would suggest using expanded metal on the bottom shelf, firstly it keeps the weight down, secondly dust cant collect as easily, thirdly cost savings

Reply:A lot. New steel is $$$$. Try to find scrap as much as possible. I regularly go scrounge around the steel yards scraps pile, it's amazing what you can find sometimes. Course, everything will be too short likely, so you might have to cough up the money and buy new steel, but try to get everything else from the scrap bins. Or look on craigslist or go talk to local steel contractors.. you might be surprised how much scrap is just laying around looking for someone to pick it up. I just got 100 pounds of scrap for small projects for less than the 5' sch 40 pipe and the 5' 2"x1/2 stock I bought new. Plus, I found several punched and fabricated brackets in the scrap heap that will work perfect for my dozer project later on, and the 1 3/4 cold rolled pin.... all for scrap prices!
Reply:Not sure about all the cost, but I just purchased some 2"x2"x1/8" and it was $57.84 per stick.  The major cust will be the 3/8" top.  But the good side is an excellent welling table.Good luck!

Reply:x3 on the expanded metal unless you plan on stacking a lot of steel (weight) on there which makes the table hard to push around the shop. 4'x8' x3/8 at $1.10 a pound would cost $539.26. Square tubing... if you use 2"x2"x 1/8  this would cost you at $1.10 a pound,  per foot ... $3.37  (need approx 60') = $202.2Plus.... wheels               $35welding wire       $45welding gas        $50cutting disks       $50 (at $5 a zip disk)sanding/grinding disks  $16 ($2 a sanding disk)=$196Total (roughly) = $937.46If my math is right... Reply:Cheaper cutting disks can also be purchased ($1.39), although I prefer Zip Cut...Cheaper disks.

Reply:The cost of everything sucks now days, but being able to say I built it and it is built better than what you can buy is priceless.I would put some holes or slots in the top for different jigs or clamps to slide into.We are on our way to being farmers!
