Short on space...

Had enough of this drill press taking up space and being unusable in the shop. On a fairly un-sturdy base which really should have been bolted into the concrete, one of my idiot coworkers had already tipped the dang thing over (glad its the companies and not mine or I'd have killed him). Between its weight, unstable nature and being too heavy/bulky to maneuver around myself, I decided it was time to change where it was sitting.Now its tippy nature has been counterbalanced by a damn heavy lincoln 400A mig power source. When I need to use the drill press I just move the feeder onto the top of the welder and swing the head and table around and lock them.Its not pictured, but I plasma cut a hole in the back of the welder to pass a strain relief thru and wired the drill press pigtail into the welder to save from having to make another power cord for it. Reply:I would think all the debris from the drill press will cause damage to the welder when the fan sucks in all the metal shavings and dust..sorry not a good idea...

Reply:Originally Posted by greenbuggyInteresting concern.  However, the fan on the welder doesn't come on unless the welder is actually turned on, while the press can be run as long as the combo is plugged in.Close to a year ago I wired in a remote control for the fan on the welder as its not only obnoxiously loud, but also moves enough air that it blows shielding gas away from the weld with a 15' whip on the mig torch.  For most of the work that I do its less than a third of this units abilities and sustained for <5 mins so I don't think its hurting it any to run it with the fan on a low speed or not at all for short welds.
