I needed a stand for my Triumph. The problem is it has a single sided swingarm, and the only suitable one I could find to buy was almost $200. So I studied it's design and copied it. The hub and spindle was a donor from an old HF trailer. I wasn't sure of the material, but it appears to be cast steel, and it welded easily. The only thing I need to fix is the sag factor (see photo from rear). I'm not sure if a gusset would help enough, or if I need to make some cuts on the back side of the vertical tube and weld them back together, hopefully tweaking / prestressing the pipe. It's schedule 40, so I didn't think it would spring as much as it does.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)
Reply:Looks pretty nice, especially after saving all that money.  After I got front and rear stands, I don't know how I went without them.  You can clean and lube a chain without fighting it every step of the way.

Reply:It's a 2002 Speed Triple 955i. I picked it up a few weeks ago from a guy who was moving to Australia and needed to unload all his stuff. It has 12,000 miles on it, and I got it for $2900. It's all stock, but I did buy the ECU interface cable and uploaded the latest tune last Friday. It made a world of difference in the way it runs, but it's still finicky to start when cold, especially for an injected engine. It's a blast to ride, but you need to be careful how much throttle you give it in first or second, or you'll be looking at the sky! If I had this bike when I was 20, I would have never seen 21. Middle age makes you think twice about doing stupid things.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)

Reply:Now just paint the stand GREEN to match the bike. Perfect.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:Yea, it definitely needs paint, after I get it to hold the bike level. BTW, the paint on the bike is custom. The original owner thought British Racing Green was more appropriate than blue on a Triumph.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)
Reply:Nice Job!Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Cut the tube on the backside 3/4 of the way through (opposite where the wheel mounts), add a piece of flat strap from the base up to above the cut, after the cut has been squeezed together.  A "strongback" type of thing.  Then your wheel can be set level & the weight won't pull the stand off center.  And as an added benefit, nothing is in the way of the wheel side of the stand.Nice bike, I like how it looks.  The muffler looks a bit out of place though, might be the angle of the picture.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:thats a triumph?i had a 1965 650 cc bonneville..2 carbs..pull like hell from 80 mph..i miss it...nice stand.....
Reply:Yea, it's a Triumph. 120 HP and a little over 400 LBS. I think it'll do 80 in the first of it's six gears! Supposedly it's limited to 152 MPH by the ECU, but I'll never know for sure.Did an "adjustment" to the stand today. I put a little preload on it with a jack, and heated the base of the vertical tube so it would hold the new angle, then added a gusset. Works good now. I just need to paint it.P.S. I just saw the weather on the national news. I feel sorry for you guys living up north. It was mostly sunny and 80 degrees here today!
