How are the fixturing holes made in the top of table like this:http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...4165_200374165Is it possible to buy pieces of 1/4" steel plate with those holes in it already?
Reply:there are many ways to get those holes. waterjet, laser cut, plasma cut, O/A Cut, Drilled. More then likely it's a multi head automated drill system.Doubt you'd be able to buy individual peices unless you went straight to the parts department of that company. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I was thinking about building a table like that but skipping the holes and leaving enough room for clamps to fit between the slats.  would work out a lot cheaper to build .Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Plenty of those type of tables have been built here or on other boards. Some with the holes, some without. 1/4" is waaaaaaaay too thin to use in that application, likely need to looks at 3/4"+. The holes are for clamps, not just decoration or lightening up the table. I would just use my Rotobroach. A mill would work fine, and a drill press could be used, though not as nice an option as the first two.

Reply:I have seen the tables designed for hold down clamps, I always thought that they were cast.  I have also found them used at some welding auction houses on line.

Reply:my opinion is that those tables will more than pay for them selves once they are put into production. I would suggest just buying the size table that fits your work and be done with it. ive got two tables, different style, and I cannot imagine fabricating without them. i'll be adding a third, brand new, 5x10 table in the next 12 months.
Reply:Hi,An economical way to get one of those tables is to start with a nice stout welding table and a mag drill. As projects require, drill and tap for each project. Over the years you'll end up with "your" table, and not hundreds of unused holes.Jeff
