.040 Tungsten with 1/16' Collet body ?

Just curious but I was wondering if it was possible to use a .040 Tungsten Rod, .040 Collet and a 1/16th Collet body ??I was delivered the .040 Tungstens, the .040 Collet's but NOT the proper collet Bodies....Would the 1/16" collet bodies work in place, or are they just TOO big ?Cheers,/Jman....Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:There is always a little air space between the tungsten and collet body. I can't say for sure without checking my equipment at work, but I would think as long as the collet is able to crimp onto the tungsten inside the body, it would be fine. Reply:I never tried it, but the tungsten gets the elec. current from the collet. Not the body. I don't know that it will even make a difference for the gas, but if it does you'll need to reduce your cfh.

Reply:Should work, I have done it with my 20 torch. Makes me wonder though why don't they just make one side collet body and make all the collets work with it. They came make collets do it with machine tools why not our TOG torches. I know it is possible but somebody wants to make a bit more money. Reply:I have been using a profax torch with a 1/8 and collet holder and have used collets all the way down to .02. No problems. If using a lens you will have some gas leakage that is not diffused around tung, but I have done this also without probs. I use this on a syncro 250 and have it WAO- 310 amps with a 3/32 tung for very short periods 5-10 secs and worked OK. Peter
