Does Miller make an inverter type welder like the passport technology, but costs less then the passport? Just 220v.VernI've looked on the miller site, but you have to dig for the technology type.
Reply:just look at the weight. It should tip you off as inverters are a ton lighter than transformers. offhand i dont think they do make anything less than the passport in an inverter mig
Reply:I went from AC/DC stick to meg to give myself every advantage to make good welds. Now it seems the route is a Passport. $1,900 to $1,550.Thank you for your reply.Vern
Reply:Vern,The Sp135 Plus and 175 should weld just fine- using a Passport will not improve your welds because it is Inverter technology.Might be time to get some Professional help as someone that can show you what is going on will be money well spent.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:I agree with Ed. You won't fix bad techique with a new machine. I see this all the time where guys spend big bucks on the latest gadget when thier problem really is that they just don't know how to use what they already have. They want to throw money at a problem to solve it, the problem is they spend the money on the wrong thing.I learned this lesson the hard way. For years I tried to learn on my own with mediocre results. Then I had the opertunity to get paid if my welds met a certain critera, so I took a night class for stick. All it took was someone to show me what I was doing wrong and I was off to the races. Since I had my own machine, I could practice at home between classes and concentrate on learning and corecting any problems in class. By the middle of the class I could do a better job than many of the guys who I worked with that had welded for years. When I wanted to learn Tig later, I didn't F around, I took a class and learned the right way from the start and cut out all the wasted time and money trying to do it myself..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Hobart has a portable mig welder that has some similarities to the Passport. I forget the name of it. It's probly a little less expensive than the Passport. Reply:The Hobart is a battery operated machine- the Trek180.Even when pugged in to 120v it uses the batteries for power, the 120v is only used to charge the batteries.List $ is 1800.00Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
