Snowmobile logging, idaho style

Here is a few pics of a sled trailer i made for my snowmobile a few years ago. I made it with a telescoping reach on the tounge just like a truck log trailer. {I have hauled logs for years}. The trailer can be shortened up to carry 8 foot and then stretched out to haul 16 or 20 if they are small jack pine or tamarak wips. I used a old style camper jack for the reach. Welded a clevis to a piece of 1 inch cold rolled, drilled it to put the pull pin threw to tow it back out to the woods.Both bunks swivel and the tongue has a spring on the pull pin to take some shock out when i start to move..The tongue is welded solid to the first trailer . It follows my sled track real close as the front trailer steers the rear trailer. Plan on making a bed for it this summer that fits over the bunks and pins in place.make it about 4'x8' put some short sides and tandom axles and wheels on it and use it this summer as a big yard or wood hauler.nothing fancy but the swamp i haul the wood out of doesnt mind. the sled is a 96 skidoo skandic with a 24'' wide track and 3 speed tranny, low and hi and reverse. just a old work horse. Reply:We used homemade bobsleds similar to that when I was a kid.  My Grandfather used to build them.  Instead of having a tow bar between the sleds, we used crossed chains.  When running empty, you'd simply stack the aft sled onto the forward one.That Skandic's a great machine.  Nothing fancy but a great workhorse.  I lived in Labrador in the early nineties and bought a brand new '91 Arctic Cat Jag 440 AFS.  If I'd had my time back I would have bought the Skandic instead."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:Thanks guys,    Markfuga, the saw is a husky 266xp with a 36'' bar and skip tooth stihl chain. I use only stihl chains, my money they are the best on the market, my opinion. Reply:That's awesome Bluemoon! Good for hauling deer out to, I'd bet. I'm seeing a small business here!Lot's of snow machine parts available out here this year. Just got dig them out of the avalanche cover...........200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:I plan on pulling it with a atv or the small tractor i picked up a wile back, I think it is called a ground hawg, made somewheres in the 20's and 30's around Holland Michigan i think. It came with a 24hp wisconson and a old sealed driveline 3 spd chevy tranny. neat old girl. Reply:...That's a real nice logger...!  I lived in North Calif...Yreka, Shasta area in the 1980's....built stuff for my brother who drove a log truck...built stuff for his boss who owned about 20 trucks......I ran a small welding shop...mostly made wood heaters...traded one for a gear-drive Stihl 090 with 61" bar...then sold the saw in 1985 for $200...thought I made a few $$...now I hear it's a $2,000 saw....Dougspair
Reply:$$$$$$$$2,000.00.....................holy catfish batman, didn't know they were worth that much, might have to see ifin somebody wants to buy it, I can always put my 066 on the mill.......As for the log trailer I have a few ideas that i would like to make in the near future. If they turn into reality i'll put pics here, one is for high mountain camping and one is for rescue use.
