What guage of leads should I run on my 250 idealarc and sa200? I was thinking of getting 100 feet each for the stinger and ground, for a total of 200 feet. I use an arcair , so that means 250 amps sometimes. Opinions?Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface

Reply:Thanks. So I can run max 75 foot leads on 1/0 at 250 amps, and max 100 foot on 2/0 at 250 amps. Are these charts pretty accurate?Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface
Reply:For SMAW you'll be fine, it's when you start running wire feed where you might have trouble.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I think I'll run 1/0 in a few sections with connectors, and stay under 75 feet when I go past 200 amps with the arcair. I normally weld at 130 - 150, occasionally 175. No plans to run wire feed. My welding is repairs on farm machinery and projects on the farm. My old leads are getting too short from removing cracking sections, so time for new. I just figured I'd ask for advice, and buy the right thing the first time.Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface
Reply:I'm down to only a couple hundred feet of 1/0 lead now. My days of standing on the trigger of a wire feeder running 5/64 and 3/32-inch Innershield at 400 to 500-amps are over! I'm just a hobbyist now. Attached ImagesDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:What type of setup are guys running for wirefeed that uses the arc welder leads for power?Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface
Reply:A ln-25 wire feeder if I remember I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow
Reply:At 200' (100' each lead) 1/0 will get you 200 amps at 60% duty cycle at 104 degrees outside temp. So unless you are going to be doing a lot of air arcing then you should be covered.
Reply:Lol not a lot of air arc, but it beats the grinder for removing welds when something gets ripped apart.Lincoln 250 IdealarcLincolc 255 PowermigLincoln SA 200 1940's with V4 WiscLincoln SA 200 1974 blackface

Reply:1/0 will be fine for what you are going to do. If you do get to doing alot of gouging, just drop the connection in a five gallon bucket of water and it wont melt. If you are doing LOTS of gouging, like I do, use 4/0..........I still have to run the connections in and out of a bucket of water cause the connectors are the weak point.6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers
Reply:On the chart from pacific cableing, it shows the line-in amperages, and it seems to indicate that the amp rating actually drops when going from 1/0 to 2/0. What gives? Typo?Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:Stickman----It's been a very hectic past few months. Moved to a new site in early August, absolutely nothing here, the living conditions are very primitive and the local people are quite a bit more violent than my previous place, the area is absolutely beautiful though. We have started moving dirt, not alot yet, just around 20000 tons a day. Have been very busy gearing up and should have 6 brand new 600 Air Paks here in a few days along with several hundred thousand worth of other neat new toys.........decided to go with everything brand new here so as not to slow down one of my other areas. Anyway, I'm back.......pics will follow.....soon6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers |
