My tank went empty...... So I used the tank I took from dads last month........I noticed the flow meter was bouncy all of a sudden with the tank...... Has 1700 lbs in it........ But the ball was bouncing in the flow meter......Started to weld and heard a problem so stopped........ Grabbed some scrap...... And blamo....... Porous......... The old tank that is now empty...... None of these issues......This tank of dads probably sat in his garage for who knows how many years....... He never used it as far as I can tell.......Does Argon go bad in this situation? Any idea what caused the flow meter to be sporadic? My LWS is closed so I'm done with TIG today but would appreciate any thoughts you might have.....Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:It doesn't go bad,but it can be bad when purchased.

Reply:If was a bad tank of gas, it could be why your dad set it aside so many years ago Fexal.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:As much as I Tig weld, my 250 bottle of argon will last me 2 to 3 years. Only thing I have ever noticed is when it is very very low I'll have problems with aluminum welding. But I mean it has to be really low!Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Well I took the tank to school and plugged it and immediately noticed the ball wasn't bouncing. The gas went perfect on the Lincoln there and the weld quality was fine....... So...... Gas is not the problem......My flow meter should be ok, since it worked great on my own tank that I took nearly to zero on Saturday with no issues with the meter. The bouncing ball started with the new tank........Ill take the flow meter to class on Wednesday to rule that out as the problem...... Hopefully........Will post the answer to the question once I narrow it down...........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Hi all, on the subject of gases, what would happen if you Tig welded without any shield gas, but in a vacuum chamber, IE no air (Oxygen)  to contaminate the weld or the Tungsten......is this a process for special purposes....would it also work in outer space or on the Moon if you wanted to do a weld on a space vehicle or Luna Buggy.....should work on any metal if it's feasible. If the Tig does not work in a vacuum due to the inability of the high frequency to form an ionised path in the absence of a shield gas for the main current, would you then use scratch Tig to get the arc to form?I couldn't find any where else to post this question.......ignore it if it's too far off topic.Ian.

Reply:I plugged the tank back in last night after laying all the components out to ensure no kinks in any of the lines......All was fine...... no issues......I have no idea what the problem was on Saturday, but all by itself......... fixed.........Weird.......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Was the torch connection on the front of your machine loose?  Happened to me recently, and we've got similar machines.  Initially, the bead would be fine for a couple seconds, then turn to crap.  Torch connection on front of machine was loose.  Glad you got it sorted out.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup
Reply:I think a loose connection is a strong possibility. I had been blowing and going for a hours before I switched tanks, and so it's a good chance that was the culprit.I"m glad it's sorted out.
