I bought an argon regulator on ebay. Works well except it carried to much pressure. Very high. Couldnt hold the pressure with hose clamps. I took it apart tonight and figured out how to turn down the pressure. Now I just need to know is there a certain pressure I need or just enough to make the little ball go up? It was to cold in shop to dally to long. It is about 20 below here tonight. No insulation or fire in shop. Frosted Harold
Reply:An Argon regulator/flometer operates on 50# input into the Flometer.  Not good to change that pressure, because you will change the outlet flo, to the work piece.  JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Hello Harold, there can be differences in systems designed to provide shielding gases. Some flowmeters utilize a pressure regulator to provide a relatively low output pressure and a flowmeter to actually regulate the flow of the gas. From your brief description of what you have it sounds as if this is the type of "flowmeter" that you have. It utilizes a "pressure regulator" to control the amount of pressure that will be built up when the system is static(no flow present), once the output solenoid has been activated and flow commences the "flowmeter" portion of the system kicks in to provide the correct flow(cubic feet per hour or litres per minute). If the pressure regulator portion of the system is set too high you will possibly have too high of a pressure present in the hose leading from the regulator/flowmeter to the tig unit/wire feeder, whichever this is supplying, once the gas solenoid has been activated and the pressure has been relieved the flowmeter portion of the system kicks in and you will be provided with the proper amount of flow based on the external needle valve setting on the tube with the ball. Reducing the pressure regulator setting will only have a detrimental effect if it has been reduced so significantly that it can no longer provide enough gas pressure and volume to meet the flow requirements of the system. As opposed to trying to set these parameters yourself, you might want to see about having the flowmeter/regulator checked out by a competent technician if you don't feel confident in doing so yourself. Those who are familiar with these systems can make the necessary adjustments and provide you with a piece of equipment that will provide you with reliable and lasting performance for a long time to come. A bit for you to consider. Best regards, Allanaevald
