As you may know, I bought a new Miller Syncrowave 200 a couple of weeks ago, and have never welded aluminum before. I got a piece of scrape and proceeded to run about 40 stringers in total. I figured that by the time I had those stringers ran, I was ready for a project.I have an old pontoon boat that the helm had pretty much rotted away, so decided to build a helm from aluminum as my first project.Remember, aluminum is completely new and foreign to me.Raw sheet ready to be cut.Necessary parts cut out.Parts tacked up, ready to weld.Second one tacked and ready, for my sons boat, he is also rebuilding an old pontoon. Some of the welds.Comments welcome, good and bad alike.
Reply:I would say that you're certainly gotten the hang of it. Did you make all of the welds in the flat position?
Reply:Looks pretty good for your first aluminum. I am in the same boat as you on that stuff. I am planning on ordering a 200 next week. You can only get better with more practice thats for sure.JerodHypertherm 30Miller Syncrowave 200Millermatic 140and a propane torch and hanger if all else fails

Reply:Looks good to me.Now just get steadier in your dips and all will be great!Count them as you go and when you get to the other side where the weld length is the same then the same amount of dips should be within 2 or 3..Try it!Good practice routine.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Welds look good, clean and pretty consistent.Do you know what the Aluminum alloy is, and what filler did you use? Thanks

Reply:If you space the beads out a little more, the whole weld will look more uniform and consistent. It looks really great.UA Local 598

Reply:Looks pretty good from here. How did you cut the diamond plate?
Reply:i too was wondering if you made those cuts with the angle grinder in the photo.
Reply:The alloy is 3003, the rod is 4043, and yes, all cuts were made with the 6" Metabo using 1/16" wafer discs. |
