This is a quick and disappointed review of their new WELD X jacket they haveFirst off the jacket is VERY light compared to the regular leather ones. all the placement of everything is very good but that is about it.The bad: This is the first time i had been able to use it after about 2 months of owning it. I was welding overhead with 1/8 7018 and during the process, 2 BB's fell on my right arm. The first BB landed in the FR cotton under arm gusset and burnt threw both layers in about 2 seconds and burnt the crap out of my arm. The second BB landed on the actual weld x material and burnt threw it in about 3 or 4 seconds(i was wearing a elbow brace where it landed) it burnt threw both layers as well and started melting a hole in my elbow brace before i realized what had happened. Needless to say i will not be using this anymore unless it is flat position and in a very hot environment. On miller website, they show a little video of what the jacket is capable of. When they show that is sheds molten metal, they are using aluminium which melts at about 14-1600 degrees, on the other hand, steel melts at about 2600 degrees, not to mention if you are stick welding stainless, that stuff would go right threw your jacket and arm So i will probably be contacting miller and letting them know about this. At $114.00 i am kinda pissed, i would rather had gotten their pigskin leather jacket at that price Last edited by Nick_31; 03-13-2012 at 07:51 PM.

Reply:i have contacted miller so we will see what happens. I told them i was scraed to wear it so meaybe they won't send me another oneI already have 3 of the BSX jackets and they are cheaply made. only last about 10 washes and they start falling apart.Although i am looking at their combo jacket with the bib, that looks like it might fit the bill a little better. maybe they will do a trade or something

Reply:well, i work a lot with roto drills and cutting fluid in conjunction with fabricating and welding so I got a lot of oil spots on them
Reply:I mostly wear sleeves, i only bust out the jacket when i'm over head welding or in a tight spot. Other than that my leather sleeves seem to work for just about everything.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:Best jacket I have owned hands down. I do all my over head with it and have no problems. You all are taking about it burning you well I was taught to position yourself correct and you won't burn yourself as much. And leather just sucks that's an old timer thing time to move on people
Reply:Milleralltheway, only 2 posts and both about the Miller jacket? hmm.. Doesn't look like the jacket would keep you from burning your arm if leaning on hot metal like leather will.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG

Reply:l don't trust any high-falootin jacket overhead welding with SMAW regardless of what 114 dollar name they embroider on it. Leathers are 4G clutch.

Reply:I've been fine with my BS standard cowhide jacket. Not sure why so many on here don't just wear leather.
Reply:my cape and sleeves lasted about a week and looked like i patterned a shotgun, everywhere a bb hit the cloth would fall out
Reply:I found that homemade fire resistant fabric works just as good or better. A box of 20 Mule Team Borax and a canister of boric acid is all you need for a life time supply. This is the ratio I use:mix 7 oz. Borax, 3 oz. boric acid, and 2 qts. warm water |
