If you won a free welder, but had to choose between a Longevity 256PI or a Everlast POWER-PRO 256, witch would you choose?
Reply:The Dynasty 200... Heh. In other words you want to buy one of the 2 listed and need help deciding which brand to go with. i suggest asking in the sponsor forums. For example ask in the Everlast forum why you should buy a PP256 instead of a Longevity 256PI and do the opposite in the Longevity forum. Honestly the Quality is probably about the same so it comes down to cost and customer service. Asking in this forum you are just going to get a bunch of anti-Chicom smart a$$ comments that I doubt will help you decide except for maybe decide to spend the money for a better machine. Look also at Thermal arc, HTP, ESAB etc.. Consider resale value too unless you think this is the last welder you will buy. In which case, you got to ask yourself will X brand be around to provide service on Y model in10- 20-30 years? or at any point after the warranty runs out will I be able to get this machine fixed if it breaks or will I have a boat anchor? I am posing questions not giving you answers. I don't work for either of the sponsor forum companies so I cannot answer if they will be or not. As far as Miller, Lincoln, ESAB etc.. I can would say the likleyhood of parts, service and company being in business in 30 years is pretty good.Last edited by soutthpaw; 11-05-2012 at 09:18 AM.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:The Lungevity256pi has just had it's warranty reduced to 1 year. So probably it is being discontinued? I would never buy that on those terms.Hidden in their Terms and Conditions Warranty page as of 11-5-12.Quote;"WeldAll, WeldMax, ForceCut 40D, and ForceCut 50D Models (1-year limited warranty effective October 1st, 2012)A 1-Year limited parts and labor warranty applies to the following models: WELDALL 160pi, WELDALL 200pi, WELDALL 256pi, FORCECUT 40D, FORCECUT 50D. If the product fails due to manufacturer failure, the buyer is responsible to cover shipping charges both ways to warrant the 1-year warranty period."Why do you want one of them anyway????????????? A multiprocess that is.Last edited by shovelon; 11-05-2012 at 11:47 AM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I'm and amateur welder looking for a "Cheap" machine to learn on, NOT to make money. I don't plan on becoming a pro-welder or even getting certified. I just don't have the cash for a name brand tig welder, and a plasma cutter. And even if I did, I can't justify spending that much money on a machine that will never pay for it's self. So I was looking at longevity, and Everlast. then I saw the add for the 256 PI on sale. This past Friday I called ready to make the purchase, and found out that the warranty was dropped from 5 yr to 1. So I backed out. Now I"m Looking at the EVERLAST. But the EVERLAST sale rep started making some claims about their IGBT tech that I cant find any thing on the web to back up. So now I'm doubting them.

Reply:If you are an amateur welder you are probably not going to put in the time to become good at all 3 main processes. We r talking hundreds of hrs. If u r on a budget u will also burn up a lot of money in gas, electrodes/filler, consumables. I would suggest picking 1 process and getting good at that... Mig is easiest then Stick then TIG is considered most difficult. If u decide to go this way then tell us the process and what material and thickness u want to weld and we can help you choose. The TA 181I is tought to beat 3 in 1 machine. Only thing u do not get is AC tig for aluminum but u can always add a spoolgun for MIG aluminum...Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
