Anyone used Passport + spool gun with alumimum

Would like to here how hard or easy the passport is with aluminum?I'm goin for it. Be here middle of next week. I have use on one arm, so tig is out. The spoolmate 100 is $206 from Cyberweld. Passport will be from local welding shop (Phoenix welding - on order). My wife changes the wire for me. She's getting quite good. I might order 2 spool guns. Why? I'll keep 035 in the passport. .025 in one spoolgun and aluminum in the other.Looking at Al projects and having fun this new year.Projects in top menu: http://wwwenichesoftware.comVern

Reply:Vern,Since you mentioned only have use of one arm and the Mrs. having to change the wire you may want to hold off on the 2nd Spoolgun.Swapping the regular gun with the Spoolgun takes a little bit of effort to make sure the Guns are seated correctly.For over all ease of work flow I would be tempted to keep the Passport connected with the Spoolgun for AL and .023 Solid wire in the Sp135Plus and whatever other wire you fancy in the SP175 Plus.The MM212 may be worth the extra $ as it can have BOTH a Spoolgun and a Regular gun connected at the same time- Gun on Demand system- just pick up which ever gun you want to use and the machine activates that Gun.Of course the MM212 is not a Portable machine.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:I get a stupid idea about every 10 minutes. I'm 65, but I have a young person locked up inside me. I try to live life to the fullest. Slide in, body all used up, die having fun! Your right about double spool guns. Looks like I'm keeping SP175 plus, selling Sp135 plus ($450 to $500 craigs list). I'll place the PP+ in the shop on the other side of 10 foot steel (only 3/16 plate) over 3/4 plywood. sp175 with 8" .035 c25. PP+ with .024 4"spool with internal co2. Spoolmate aluminum with external argon. I think material select switch, will switch gas for me. I'll switch guns.THANK YOU BULLDOG for pictures!This is passport plus 120v 14 gage aluminum.This is passport plus 120v 3/16 aluminum.I'll be doing 1/8", except for adding 1/2" x 1/16 AL tube across 2 1/8" square OD (I'm making)  x 1/8" thick x 3" long. I may reinforce both ends of tube with 1/8 plate. The ID of pipe is 3/8", just right for my pivot. for tilt legs.
