My local (only) supplier has changed to Washington Alloy products. Next closest supplier is 50 miles away. Does anyone have any experience with this wire?
Reply:Washington Alloy does not manufacture their own electrodes/wire. They will buy and relabel as necessary. We have found considerable inconsistencies between lots, some cut lengths of hard wire that were not stamped or tagged, and inadequate packaging to be some of our concerns. All of our projects have since opted to specify consumables from Lincoln Electric, ESAB, or Metrode depending on availability.

Reply:Hello 983-over, have used Washington Alloys in the past, you'll notice that I said "past". Our experiences were not good and as the other poster mentioned they tend to be re-labelers and likely receive product based on bid as opposed to quality. Thus, they would not be my first choice. We used their solid wire, flux-cored/gas shielded wire, E7018, and E6010, none of them impressed us at the school. A bit for your consideration. Best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:the local supplier to my place of employment sent us a 33 or 45 lb roll of washington alloy solid .035 wire once. I installed it in the TA Fabricator 251 welder. I ran 1 bead and was thoroughly unimpressed. Check over my tip and everything else to make sure was all in order and it was so I got the supervisor over there, gave him the roll and box back, and said get them to pick this up and bring me a roll of good wire. This wire would spit and sputter, gave a crappy looking weld, and didnt run right at all.
Reply:Okay, we'll pass on the Washington Alloy wire. My next choice is Praxair who carries only their house brand which is Pro Star. Any comments on that product? It's a bummer when you live in the middle of the Mojave desert! |
