Replacing a big steel door

My bud Don  got a job to replace a very bent door to the garbage container at a chain food restaurant.  The garbage truck had twisted it badly. He cut the old door off with a torch and cleaned  up the hinge areas. This morning we used my old  WeldanPower for the welder.  The new door, which he made, is about 7 1/2 feet square and weighs in at 150+ pounds. It rode nicely out to the job on my old flatbed.   Using three guys, Don , a strong fella, and me?  we got it positioned and spotted it in, checked the swing, the fit and level.  We added a 1/2 " thick spacer block at the bottom hinge to get things square. Then Don placed nice 7018 Vertical welds on the hinge area.   I got to grind, prep, sweep up and hand him tools.  So, this is officially my FIRST ever mobile welding work.  The manager who had doubted us yesterday was pretty impressed.  He knows his stuff... he pointed to the Lincoln and asked "What is that?"  I quietly told him THAT was the welder...   Anyway, he is going to request we do the other one too, which is bent too, but not so badly.  I had a lot of fun, and we finished for a late enchilada lunch, which we paid for with $ from selling off the old door for scrap Attached ImagesLast edited by PapaLion; 03-09-2011 at 04:12 PM.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:It's worse than ever Mark,  Don has done so much for me,  helping him for a day or two welding etc is a payback for sure.  It's at IHop if U want to see it, we're kinda proud of it.  Next, I got the Docs giving me a handful of stuff to take every day and poking around every 2-3 weeks for a day... but doing some good they say  Then there's the ranchita,  it is SPRING so it's 200 pomegranate cuttings to do, and all the farmer John stuff.   Bulletproof Goat feeder to finish. Goats to tend and the new buck Troublemaker who has settled in  nicely, There's a doe coming calling Saturday morning ps: yes, my old Sony camera takes kinda blue pics, sometimes I adjust them, sometimes I just print 'em thanks much. Then the other forum decided to have a contest to build a guitar...I was gonna' wait till NEXT year, then I got to thinkin'... Reply:hey Tangle How U is?    GED is ok, I'm enjoying it, and I'm hoping two of the students will go take their test this summer early.  Slow going... best advice. STAY in school it is so  much easier than being older and trying to do this.  I got a good group so we're having fun.
