I just got a hobart 250 amp mig running solid wire 75/25 gas I will be using it to weld thick metal I have a 110 welder for the small stuff. What i want to know is what wire size to run what are the amp ranges for each wire.
Reply:.035 solid wire is a good all purpose wire. You can run it low for sheetmetal and probaly up to half inch material on a 250amp machine.Miller 330 A/BP Bernard SS coolerMiller cst 250Miller Big Blue 251DCentury 210 Mig (first welder I bought)Hypertherm PowerMax 800Victor torch setRu Fong 31 MilAtlas lathe
Reply:From the miller manual, Short Circuit Transfer table;Wire size......... Amperage range0.023...................30-900.030...................40-1450.035...................50-1800.045...................75-250Because of the overlap, miller suggests choosing a wire that is the closest to the mid range.Exlp; 1/8 in stock would require 125 amps. 0.030, 0.035 and 0.045 all have the proper ranges. 125 amps is the closest to the mid point of the 0.035 wire amp range.
Reply:If you are only going to run 75Ar25CO2, any thing over 3/16" I would switch to gas shielded flux cored.Note: Although the E71T-1 flux cores will run in all positons as indicated, If you are going to run Flat or horizontal on anything over 3/16" use a E70T-1, it will look better. |
