Porosity of Cast Iron Head

I'm new to the forum and don't know a whole lot about welding. I generally leave it up to the pros. My question is about adding material to a cast iron head (69' B20 Volvo) exhaust port to improve flow. The shop that is doing this just sent in a group of 4 heads to get Furnace heated, welded, and cooled to add material (cast iron). Shop says all heads came back bad - leaking and porosity problems. Welder says you can't pressure test with air to verify the work. All cast iron is porous and will leak air. The shop then pressure tests with water and now says no leaks on the four heads. The shop has been up front with me in the past, I don't think shop owner has a lot of experiance with this type of welding process, says he got an experiance welder with good rep. Is this hogwash or is it believable? Does Cast Iron leak air? Thanks Rich B
