Auto Dark question

I recently bought my first auto darkening shield and have a question. I'm using a small mig. The AD seemes to work ok except I get a micro flash before it darkens when I start welding. I called the supplier and they  sent a replaced, but it does the same. Is this normal ?
Reply:No it shouldn't do that, at least none of the ones I have used ever did. What brand  and model is it? Some have adjustability settings too, for setting sensitivity and reaction time to darken or lighten.
Reply:Haven't seen one with an adjustable reaction time. As long as the filter complies with regs it'll protect your eyes from UV and IR even if it doesn't go dark. Not sayin it's working right though.
Reply:As stated above check the settings if the hood is the adjustable type. Save your vision & buy one of the name brand ones.REAL TRUCKS DON'T HAVE SPARK PLUGS

Reply:Delay is how. Reply:Sensitivity would be the first thing to check. Make sure the sensors are clean and not blocked off in any way.
Reply:all AD helmets have a small delay, the smallest the delay the better the helmet, but I never used one that didn't have a delay except for the Miller Digital elite in X-mode(witch darkens the screen before the arc is struck... most of the time)--------------------------------------------------------------www.becmotors.nlyup, I quit welding.. joined welder anonymous
Reply:Thanks for all the replys. It is a Hobart brand. The claimed reaction time is 1 /0001 of a second. My biggest concern is that it is not doing damage to my vision. Hobart's service and technical staff is very good to deal with. A real person answers the phone and are quick to help.
