Reply:not sure about him but I used drywall screws welded to the inside to push the K'wool on to ,  to hold it inplace........Red.Lincoln Percision tig 225 (Water cooled)Lincoln 350MP Power mig (with spool gun )Lincoln GXT 250 With Tig  ModuleLincoln Ln-25 Pro Dual PowerCentury 50 plasma cutter.now Lincoln .
Reply:Nice looking job.If you find your fuel usage getting high check with your LWS and a "Goss" catalog. You can get the propane/air torch ends for very low bucks from 11,000 to 300,000 btu.The tip ends (mixing chamber and filter/orfice included) are near the bottom of this page).http://www.gossonline.com/site/combi...orch_&_tip.phpThey screw over any 3/8x24tpi gas fitting (i cant remember the seat taper right now). And they show pressures up to 40psi for max btu, but run very efficient in the 4-10psi range so it is best to size up and use with lower pressure. Oh yea, you can weld studs to the torch end for mounting, it screws on and off the mixing chamber.Matt
Reply:Excellent pics of a good project.  I like casting and forges and such  too, this is a keen thread, thanks for posting. Ever consider Waste oil as a fuel?  U might not use enough to make much diff in this case.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:Posted by Castweld:Kaowool was bought on EBAY. It is held inside by crush fit- 10"x3.14=31.4 then added a couple inches 33.4 then worked it in by hand. It is staying put. Fuel=propane. At 10psi it will heat 5/8 solid to orange in about 2.5 mins.
Reply:Originally Posted by Oldiron2Is that from the initial start-up, or just from when the steel is inserted? Also, what is the start-up procedure; just throw a lighted scrap inside and turn on the gas? What size or quantity did you find the Kaowool being sold by, and do you remember an approximate price?
Reply:You can coat the inside with ITC100 to get hotter temps at lower gas usage.I just built one myself and am starting a welding forge tomorrow. The one I just finished is large so I don't want to heat the large space for welding so another forger (vertical this time) is in order. The knife supply houses sell everything you need for forges and they tend to be pretty well priced compared to other outlets.I have a couple links if needed.Bob
Reply:I know that this an old thread but I need a forge lol. Bob could you post the links that you have? And castweld, are those 035 tips produce enough heat to weld out of that forge? Thanks,Chris

Reply:WILD! i necver thought of kawool. when i used the kawool i had a 500A stud welder and inconel studs and keepers. oh yea this was on the inside of a 150' oxidizer tower in a finnished product tank farm. all done on the short end of a 75 ton crane and i had no clue what to to with the extras. ill be back I HAVE a project to go do!
Reply:Peter,Any goodies you on hand from your forge???  I love your posts.  How is the job going?  I haven't kept up much if you posted about it.  Do you have time for forging?
Reply:www.usaknifemaker.comI recommend checking with the owner Tracy Mickley first, he usually has the best prices. Also check http://www.kovalknives.com/www.knifemaking.comhttp://www.knifeandgun.com/and good old ebay. You can also search ITC100 and find suppliers.

Reply:Scott,I think we all need a little help. The job only lasted five weeks. Something going on there that is not right. Long story but I am not there any longer and looking for a real company to work for.I resurrected the welding trailer I started a while back and have been working on it to get it ready to go to work. I will update that old thread pretty soon.I have not done much forging once I got the forge done as I am focusing on income and forging just not bring in enough to dedicate time to it. Glad you like my posts and I hope you and others can learn something once in a while from my projects. I know I learn a lot from everyone here.
