Is there any. I see that the stuff was discovered back around WW2 and no one since then has been smart enough to duplicate or improve on it. There are a lot of smart welders out there and surely someone does know an alternative. Come on now time to give it up. Harold
Reply:Ceramic tape welding is the new alternative. It's used frequently in ship building where 1" plate is to be butt welded together. It allows the weld to be done in a single pass, the tape supports the back side of the puddle. This is usually used with dual shield and submerged arc processes.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 03-05-2010 at 10:08 PM.
Reply:I guess solar flux is used with all types of welding, but I had stainless steel in mind with the TIG welding process. Wonder where you can get ceramic tape.
Reply:Boron?
Reply:Well, for stainless to prevent surgaring, the alternatives are back purging or welding in a glove box.
Reply:Is using solar flux on 16 or 18 ga. stainless tubing as effective as a back purge setup?
