Was doing some welding today and noticed that if I changed the voltage setting while the machine is on it doesn't weld very well. Once I turn it off and back on it's fine. I don't remember reading anything about this in the manual, but am I supposed to turn the machine off to change voltage settings? Just wondering if this is normal or something's kicking the bucket. Thanks guys,Will.Lincoln Promig 180
Reply:I can't give you a knowledgeable answer with reasoning. All I know is that my instructors always emphasized turning the machine off before changing polarities. I've just always done it without questioning it."SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns.
Reply:Your 180 -what- ???The tapped voltage machines (discreet voltage taps as compared to a continuous voltage adjustment capability) typically say to NOT change the voltage setting knob/dial/switch while welding. The circuitry is not made or designed to do that. The continuously adjustable voltage machines DO have the capability to adjust the voltage while welding.Ahhh, just noticed your sig block. The ProMig180 is a tapped machine. Do not change the voltage setting while welding. The really cautious might turn the machine off before changing the voltage setting. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Yeah it's tapped. I changed it between welding, but the machine was still on. I'll make sure I turn the machine off between setting changes for now on. Thanks,WillLincoln Promig 180
Reply:"180 acts funny when changing settings"............. quit changin settings.. lol.. no but seriously..i told my doctor my arm hurts in two places... he said stop goin to those places (budda bumpshhh)... last night i went on a pleasure trip.. i took my mother-in-law to the airport (budda bumpshhh)... thank you thank you.. my grandmother is over eighty and still doesn't need glasses... drinks right out of the bottle.... a girl phoned me the other day and said... Reply:Pretty sure if you change a tapped machine when it is in use you will be repairing PCB's not because of the change but because of the spike that it may cause that the machine may not be able to handle. |
