Here's a shot of me using a angle plate to help in a unusual setup. I had to build a fishing tool for a local oil and gas company. They lost part of there working barrel down the hole due to improper assembly. The problem here was the fact that nobody had a fishing tool small enough to go into the small 1 1/4" hole of the working barrel. Thus I was asked to build a tool to do the job. It's kind of a delicate thing considering the work it's being asked to do but I built it out of the toughest steel I've got on hand. That made the machining of the small dovetails a real pain. I finished the job with just 3 teeth left on my dove tail cutter but lucked out on getting it done with that.  I used some hard surfacing rod and put some small spots on the slips. I then ground them into teeth to bite into the barrel. That was the only way I could think of to get teeth hard enough to really bite into the rather hard barrel without trying to harden the whole slip (which I'm afraid would of warped it to the point where it wouldn't work). Reply:That set screw just holds the dove tail wedge from dropping off? So nothing is needed to activate the wedges, they sort of bump up as they enter the tube then drop back down to bind up when they lift?Neat work."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Nice job. Very simple design, is this your own design or modeled after a larger tool?

Reply:Nice little fishing tool there Irish!AND a table with a lot of stuff up on it to get the job done! Perfect!Dovetail and T-slot cutters just seem to have a tough time even with good flood coolant.Matt
Reply:There was a thread on homeshopmachinist (I think) on making a dovetail cutter to use a standard TNMG insert.  I made one with no problem.  The angle isn't perfectly 60°, but if you use the tool to cut both sides, it doesn't really matter.  It saves on tooling cost for dovetail jobs considerably since the inserts have 6 sides.  The down side is that for smaller pieces like this one, you need a smaller cutter than the one I made.Nice piece.
