I'm in the middle of deciding which inverter tig machine I want to purchase for my first tig.  Ithink the htp looks like a very good machine but I was reading on about the miller dynasty and they have presets for the shape of the sine wave on a/c (advanced square wave, square wave) and was just curious if anyone could tell me if the htp invertig 221 is capable of mimicking the same ac settings as the dynasty? I'm new to this stuff so any input is greatly appreciated. I am finding it all very interesting learning about the sine waves and frequencies and balance , but I still have not fully grasped some of these concepts. Thanks for the help guysBryce
Reply:I do not know what the waveform looks like on the HTP, but my guess it is conventional squarewave, which is good.To shed a little light on the Dynasty waveforms, the "advanced" squarewave is just conventional and aggressive mechanically switched squarewave, the same as most modern squarewave tigs.  Then a bit less aggressive is "Softsquare" which has soft transitions to the mechanincally switched squarewave. Coming down from that is "Tri"wave, which is not aggressive at all, but is still mechanically switched for stability. Then there is "Sine" wave which is a full floating and much less stable, but feathery soft. Sinewave tends to rectify the arc when arc length is off or too much helium is used, or base metal is too hot. But a lot of oldtimers use this to thier advantage. All of these waves are then able to be manipulated as far as balance and hertz. My ThermalArc 400 is just plain squarewave, and is a beast as far as stability and aggressiveness. Then I have tricks to hobble it up a bit. I guess the HTP would be the same.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:So I guess that any modern inverter tig machine would have an aggressive square wave a/c output then?
Reply:Not all machines are created equal. many try and copy miller, most never come close.Syncrowave 180 SDMillermatic 250XSnap On MW 120 Econopac 50Victor O/A with some Smith Attachments 30 X 50 shop with a 400 Amps

Reply:The invertig221 manual is available for download so you can see all it's features:http://www.usaweld.com/v/vspfiles/pd...221_Manual.pdf
