weld powdered metal gears

Dude machined teeth almost off one gear (can see roots- the little spots on parting line) then bores larger gear to press on hub of smaller gear. These are gears inside ATV engine. The gears are full of oil (porus) so I heated with torch untill it actually caught on fire. Glass bead blasted the carbon off then welded. I end up with a pit here and there on the used gears, new ones will weld better.TIG, 309 filler Attached ImagesEquipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back

Reply:Not being familiar with ATV engines, what are these gears for? If I'm looking at these correctly, these gears are larger in diameter than the original?
Reply:Hey Peter..What is that switch with the arrow pointing to it do Mine don't have that option.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:That's amazing you were able to actually catch the powdered steel gears on fire because they had so much oil in them!I welded a powdered metallurgy steel part with TIG, and even after careful solvent cleaning, I was surprised to see a big puddle of oil drip out of it and lay in a puddle on the welding table as I applied heat to it with the TIG torch.  After getting the oil/glue/binder to smoke & drip out of it in the area I was welding however, it actually welded quite nicely!
Reply:yeah they are changing the primary gearing inside the motor. Easier than changing differential gearing in some 4x4s. This is also done on drag atv's but the other way to lower the primary gearing for 1/4 drag atvs.
