Hello everyone, last saturday i was tilling a field (not sure that this is right term - tilling) and i cougt a large stone betven blades. Result you can see in picture below. Let me just say it was about time that something breaks on this tiller in regards how much work it has done (and turned stones).Broken weldAlso the bolt that connects both sides of blades has loosen so blades wobbled during tilling. You can see in picure below how much it sagged. Unfortunately i did not noticed that before i started tillin an field. It just might contribute to the break of the weld. Reply:It doesn't look fixed.. It hasn't been power washed and painted...Kidding. Looks great. That is the kind of get er done that almost makes it fun to break stuff. I almost forgot, Good work.Last edited by dumb as a stump; 04-13-2011 at 06:58 AM.Reason: I  almost forgot  GOOD JOB..Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
Reply:And it was nigtmare to loosen all those bolts (limited space and rusty bolts) to remove all those blades and then put it back together. As I was tightening one bolt, wrench slipped of damaged nut and i wacked myself on a tiller blade... and skined a midle finger right below a knuckle, it was prety deep cut just under skin. I dont know who a had to thank i didn't decide to sharpen blades before puting them back on. And yes, I was considering to do that but I remmebered that I had sharpened them last year. Sorry for my english btw!Conclusion... It was not a quick fix...Last edited by T_Eclipse; 04-13-2011 at 07:05 AM.
Reply:Lots of parts.  Makes for a labour intensive job.  Good work.Gordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
Reply:Nice fix. I say tilling as well. Glad you didn't hurt yourself worse!
Reply:looks good to go, id like to see the tractor its for too
Reply:most tillers should have sheer pins on the tubes that the tines are connected too.  if you then hit something its supposed to just break the sheer pin instead of the gears or weld like yours did.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Well,I'm glad people have time in the middle of a time critical repair to photo-document the whole process. Seriously, I pick up an enormous amount of info about things like this just reading the posts. But, how do you find the time, or even the will power to put down the wrench, clean your hands and take pictures? I won't even answer my darn cellphone when I'm in the middle of a job like this. Nice job on both the repair and the photos too! E.

Just same as mine that i have found on internet!
Reply:T-Eclipse,Nice repair.  Hope you don't hit any more rocks!Too bad about the cut finger but I'm sure it will heal up fine.  After 45 years of fooling around with machinery, I've just now learned that if I wear work gloves, my fingers don't get cut up as much AND my hands stay cleaner.  Oh well, better late than never.  I always end up taking them off for some delicate tasks but when it's time to break loose rusty bolts and such I've got them on.  I bought 3 pair of slightly different make/model a few weeks ago from WeldFabulous and all three are great....padded in just the right spots (top of hand, top of fingers, palm), thin fingertips for picking up tools and fasterers, spandex construction so they fit good.  About $10 each give or take. One exception....never wear gloves when working with large rotating machine tools (lathe, milling machine, etc.) (but I always were them when working w/ a stationary grinder/wire wheel).Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
