I have a syncrowave 180 sd. For the last two days I have been doing alot of welding and my syncrowave's fan has been coming on and off like normal. But I noticed that after the welder is nice and warm when I press the pedal about half way there is a knock inside the welder. Just one little thud sound every time I reach half throttle. It sounds like something taps the side of the machine's side cover. At first I thought the sheet metal was just moving around from the heat but then I noticed it only happens when the pedal reaches the half way point. The welder works fine, aside from the audible knock there is nothing weird going on. Does anyone have any idea what this is?Miller Syncrowave 180 sdMillermatic 180Lincoln Pro-Cut 55Bridgeport vertical mill

Reply:Get a hammer and knock back or take it to the welder Doc.  JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:As long as its working properly I'm not messing with it. I just want to know what the knocking is for peace of mind. I take it no one here has any idea.Miller Syncrowave 180 sdMillermatic 180Lincoln Pro-Cut 55Bridgeport vertical mill
Reply:I don't have my crystal ball today and it doesn't work for things that far away, so I'd suggest removing the cover and watching when it makes the noise again. Maybe some bolts are loose somewhere and the magnetism from the transformer is pulling something towards it. Does it even have a transformer, or is it one of the inverter models?
Reply:I would like to know what you find out. I also have the same type of Tig welder. It has a transformer.
Reply:It does have a transformer. I am not looking for psychic powered guesses. I thought maybe, just maybe, someone out there who has used a 180 sd has experienced similar occurrences. Nothing is literally hitting the side cover, that is just the type of sound being emitted. If no one has experienced this first hand then I am on my own. I'll continue to ignore the noise and if it breaks down, well, I will just have to deal with it then.Miller Syncrowave 180 sdMillermatic 180Lincoln Pro-Cut 55Bridgeport vertical mill
Reply:I was serious with my  suggestion about removing the cover and listening as the foot pedal is operated. You might be able to locate the sound better by using a large plastic tube as a 'stethoscope', if you hear it but can't tell where it's being produced. I have never had such noise with my older SW-250.
