This is the balls for limited garage height, saving time and the back.Use to have to run around with the floor jack and jack stands, usually having to pick and reset the height twice. Picked this up on craigslist. Justified it by immediately doing my wife's brakes. And finding a long time bad wire that took out the ABS. 1 trip to the dealer would have cost more than the lift.Think I will make a spatter shield for the hydraulic ram and find away to make a platform for it to use as a welding table as well. Excuse the messy garage , coming off the winter it is congested.   looking at this it is very basic and simple to copy, it could be built with a double ram quite easily. just some 2x3 box and some 3/4 X4 flat bar and pivots. Reply:Curois how much $$$ did you pay. I have been wanting to build a scissor lift for my metal fab class.

Reply:Congrats! Nice when a new tool can pay for itself right away. Especially when it fixes something for the Mrs.!!!! Nice shop stool too. Re-purposed weight bench??200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Hey, I just added a lift to my garage too.  The one you got is kind of the best of all worlds, in the mid-rise arena.  You get more access to the underside of the car than with a scissors-type lift, and you can easily do wheels and brakes without an extra step, like you'd need with a four post.  Also, a four-post or two-post would eat up your floor space.  The one you got won't.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Good eye on the re-purpose weight bench, exactly right, I was all set to scrap it and then the idea came. I saved all the pads as it was a multi station and A custom creeper is in the works. Paid $800. I looked them up and they list around 1500 but you would likely have to add freight(900 lbs) and possibly tax. It is 2 years old and looks lightly used. I am already liking it.It is probably the lightest and cheapest of the mid rise but it does allow alot of under car work and anything in front or behind the wheels is wide open. Some day when I build a dedicated shop it will have a post lift but I imagine this will stay around even then. In a pinch it can be leaned on its side against a wall out of the way. I am also figuring on making that power unit do double duty with my motorcycle lift and maybe a shop press. It is also fairly portable depending on what kind of unloading equipment a friend may have at there place if you want to loan it or help someone out on the weekend.Last edited by kolot; 05-03-2011 at 10:04 PM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:I also picked up 1 of these last winter, this is not mine but picture was handy, mine is probably in a little better shape after I cleaned it up. By the way I broke down the 4 winter impala tires and put the summer tires on the rims today in under 45 minutes. I use the machine to break the beads and then use a couple of tire spoons rather than the big tire bar from the machine due to the aluminum wheels. The offset rims won't go in the tire machine so I invert them on top of a couple of 2x4's and it works OK. changing tires by hand is not at all bad once you develop a few techniques. Key is good tire lube, not soap or other improvised stuff. I still have to take them down to have them balanced though. I have a bubble balancer but for the offset aluminum wheels I don't bother. It more of a novelty. When you tell someone you change car tires with a couple of spoons in your driveway they kind of get this funny look on there face that is priceless.
