Not really sure what to call it...welder stand or maybe shop skid. Fabricated for Miller Dialarc HF to sit on the bottom frame with storage above. 2 lead hangers. And yes the one hanger is setting at a downward slope it was late. Have to cut the tacks and straighten out since first thing wife said was why "did you make one crooked".  Tough inspection department around here.Added the 3" sch. 40 to store rod conatiners fabbed from 2" sch. 80 pvc pipe. Still some finish grinding and primer and paint to go but not in much of a hurry since still work to be done on the shop. The frame is S4x7.7 and 3/16 plate for the shelves. All salvaged from some forklift battery racks that were scrapped out by the outfit I work for. Lead hangers are 3" sch. 40 cut in half. So as far as material goes the price was right. Anyways here it is in unfinished state.Al Attached ImagesA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:I like HEAVY DUTY!!! Are you going to weld on here? Or is it just to hold your welder and supplies?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Thats just to hold stuff. My welding tables are a lot bigger and heavier. Gives the loader tractor a workout moving this stuff around. In process of building a weld table for working out side. If the Illinois weather would ever hold out for a day or two. Reply:Alot bigger and heavier?! I like you! My buddy is always screaming at me to "BUILD IT LIGHT, BUT STRONG". Forget that, make it indestructable, it looks cooler anyhow.Yeah, I hear you about this rain. My goodness! Is it ever gonna stop?! Nice weekend, but this weekend they're calling for more."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Light and strong is for airplanes. Build it big or don't build it at all. My bench inside is 3'-6"x9'-6". 3 1/2" 1/4" wall square tubing frame. Pretty sure it ain't gonna blow away in a strong wind. Outdoor will be same except a little shorter just cause don't have the room for a long one where I'm putting it. Still do ned some proper tops for them as ther one I got is pretty light. If I was designing around new materials or for a client I would be a little more efficient in the design. But when you got material on hand you design around it. I got a bunch of the S4x7.7 I salvaged from the fork truck battery racks. Reply:I was down at the scrap yard in Kankakee today and a fella was moving a 1" thick plate 10' wide x 20' long. Now THAT would make a bench. Probably not too good for an airplane though.I told that fella if he would just cut me a good size hunk of it off it'd be a lot easier to move around. Since they were paying about 13 cents a pound for what I brought in I generously offered him 14 cents a pound for his plate. He wasn't too keen on that idea either. Reply:As heavy duty as it looks there is still some flex in the top shelf section. Nothing critical and I really didn't put much thought into the structural design but does prove that good design is more important than heavy metal. The beams don't take torsional stress very well. The flex comes from horizontal member supporting the top frame. Bracing would help but get in the way of the tool boxes I have planned for the lower shelf. I'm going to cut and install a back plate between the lower and upper shelves which will help a little. I suppose that's one of the benefits of projects like this. Learn some things along the way that'll come in handy on things that are a little more critical. Also keep the scrap pile whittled down to a reasonable size.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
