Are these aluminum mig welds okay by any standard? See here: mig welding aluminum
Reply:The pics are showing good aluminum mig welds, while highlighting one of mig welding on aluminum's most common issues: Starts and stops. There is less puddle control, and the finish on most alum. mig welds usually is not as clean a tie off as most people would like to see. All it means is you need to take special care at the starts and stops. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Yes you are right about the start of the weld. I need to set the initial "hot start" function so that it can get the heat in straight away. And for the end of the weld I need to set the crater fill function which will lower the power so that it can finish off properly. |
