I'm looking at joining some square aluminium tube at a 30 to 40 degree angle (TIG). Welding the inside angle well seems difficult to make a good weld.I was thinking about making up an aluminium wedge maybe 1/2 an inch long or so and esentially weld it into the inside of the corner?Any tips for making good sound welds in the tight corners? Have used a gas lens and more stickout to get the electrode in as close as possible.Lincoln PT185 TIGLincoln 175 MIGLincoln 240 amp AC StickLind Needle Arc plasma welderPlasma cutter, soon???
Reply:Zap did something a while back where he increased the stick out of the tungsten on his TIG, used a block of copper to heat & bend the tungsten. If I remember right, the tungsten was out about an inch. Then he put on a small cup so he could get into tight corners.Might do a search on Zapster's posts, it was about a year ago he posted that.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Thanks, will do, can see the small cup working as the shielding Gas is going to get contained in the corner to help give good coverage. Will check out his posts, thanks.Lincoln PT185 TIGLincoln 175 MIGLincoln 240 amp AC StickLind Needle Arc plasma welderPlasma cutter, soon??? |
