Reply:LOLthis thread is winning! Most of my scrap is leaned against wall, if it is small enough(but know I will use it), I keep it on top of my bench against the wall.Harbor Freight Inverter 130 amp DC stick/tig (sold, really!)Lincoln Square Wave Tig 175 AC/DC stick/Tig

Reply:I get a junk car and park it next to the shop. Anything metal scrap goes in the car till it is filled and then I take it in for scrap.
Reply:I have an aluminum box that sits under my mobile welding table.  When its full, its generally about 100 lbs.  I just have my buddy scrap it.  Not worth it to me to drive 50 minutes round trip in a 12 mpg vehicle to get $8.00.  The pieces that don't fit in there sit on end in the corner.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup
Reply:The whole shop is one huge scrap pile so you don't have to look far to find anything......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I'm kinda with ZAP!I keep certain pieces of this and that leaned up here and there.Outside a big pile on top of an old fuel oil tank with the pieces laid 90 degrees to each other so you can see the ends to tell how long they are. This pile has tin over it to keep off the snow and rain.Certain small pieces on the shelf under the bench.Pretty certain its "junk" piled outside the overhead door, but I usually reach in and grab a piece.
Reply:That's classified. But, if I told you where my precious metal collection was, your safety could be compromised. Thanks for asking though. City of L.A. Reply:I used to keep my scrap outside the unit in a skip provided by the metal recycler, one day going back to the unit i saw the whole bin empty, Thinking the scrap company came and emptied it i waited for my money to come 2 weeks later i found out that the scrap processor didn't collect it it was stolen I had almost 4 or 5 tonnes of scrap in there, So after that my Scrap bin lived in the corner of my unit under lock and key
Reply:I had a drum full of 14'' and 44 '' unistrut cut offs. Took them and made a shelving unit with 5' uprights and shelves that used the 44'' pieces with the 14'' welded to them. Now all the steel shorter than 24'' go on it. One way of utilizing scrap and organizing it. I still have drums with 4'and longer stuck it them.
Reply:I don't have a scrap pile. If it is left over from a previous project, then it is just inventory for a future project that I am not aware of yet. Even little 1-2" pieces get kept in a 5 gal. bucket for when I need a small piece to fill in somewhere on a project. I would hate to cut a 1" piece off a longer one, only to need the longer piece later and find out it is 1" too short..
Reply:I have two locations.  Small stuff is close to the welding table in a 45 gal. drum and some 5 gal. buckets.  The larger stuff is about 100' from there by the bush line.  Both locations are out in the weather.  Can be harder to find what I need in the winter when the snow is deep.Gordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
Reply:X2 on what zap said. We keep just about everything but definite scrap goes in a barrel or on a pile out back till it gets hauled in usually twice a yearMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Virtually all of it is kept in the shop out of the weather.  I keep perforated sheet scrap sheet steel laying on 2x4's on the floor in a stack.  Thin gauge sheet is leaning on the wall.  Heavy channel, tube, rod and angle propped in a corner.  Small drops in a bin on a shelf and larger drops in a pile near the same corner with the heavy stuff.  Heavy plate leans on a post right next to the door since it is so hard to maneuver in the shop.Material racks on the list of things to do if the actual project list ever gets short enough to allow time.Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:I keep my short pieces in old milk crates, but when the time comes to need a short piece we  cut off from a longer piece in the rack,(ahh.lazy!).
