I was hoping to be done by mothers day, but you know how it goes.... A while ago I stumbled across some gorgeous structures made from woven rebar and have been wanting to try something ever since. It wasn't easy to sell her on the idea of rebar flower gardens, but reluctantly she agreed, and gave me the checkbook and green light.  I think it turned out pretty neat and she likes it, though some of my neighbors don't quite get the rebar.  "you gonna pour concrete around it?" is what I mostly get. Ideally I would have liked to build the entire thing out of rebar, but it gets expensive fast. It's 40'x5' and I probably have 40 or so 20' sticks in there, but I could have easily used 5x that for a solid steel one.  So flagstone was a pretty cheap alternative.pic1: the basic structure. pic2: 5.5 Tons of 8" strip stone, (2x as much as I need but it comes with lots of small pieces) pic3: mostly done,  I still need to fill with dirt, irrigate, and plant flowers.... arrrgggghhhh!pic4: what to do with all the little stones?  craigslist.  We'll see if anyone else shares my love for rebar pic5: I'm learning that if you are gonna build one, it isn't that much harder to build a couple at a time.  Attached Imagesars sine scientia nihil est

Reply:I will copy your idea of flowers bed. will build  3 ft height front year fence with flagstone and rebard.
Reply:You must have very understanding neighbors.
Reply:Not my taste, but I can't see why the neighbors would complain. I'm not a big one for the giant yards full of trashy holiday decorations some like either and most seem to find that OK. If you want all the stones level, I'd suggest raising the low ones with sand or dirt fill rather than digging them out. Shouldn't really be that hard. You might want to give some thought to what the rust will do to the side walk however..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:No HOA...do what ya want   That was a prime requirement when I bought my house...no HOA.  I pay for the house, I don't need nosey neighbors telling me what I can and can't do with it...none of their damn business.I like the two square ones with the straight sides alot better than the long woven one.  I guess my major concern would be about rust and getting cut/scraped up on them while tending the beds.  Stainless rebar woulda been nice :P  With just the rebar and no stone pavers against the edges, they look like they'd make great pens for small animals (goats maybe?).--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:I'd be a little bit concerned that some kid would smash into it with his bike and get hurt, as clost to the sidewalk as it is. Not something I'd have worried much about 15 years ago, but the way people are sue happy these days makes me thing about stuff like that. I could see catching a pedal on it while riding a bike... If you put it there, it's yours. I do like it though, it'll look a lot better once you get some plants in it. If you wan't the stones leveled out then now's the time to do it, it'll be a lot harder to do once you have 10 tons of dirt packed in there.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
