Hi all, I haven't posted any projects in a while. I mostly just do small repair stuff for myself and friends lately (nothing worth posting). I made two of these stands, one for me and one for my father. He is a retired tool maker and is going to teach me how to use the lathe he gave me, starting with grinding my own tool bits. So of course I needed a grinder for the basement ($38.00 from Harbor Freight with a coupon). The bases are made from big truck brake drums I got for free from a friend. The pipe, channel, and plate I had laying around. The welding was done inside of my garage not in my cluttered and un-raked driveway. I took them outside to wire wheel and paint. They are tig welded with my Miller DialArc HF. I'm much better at MIG but practice my tig welding whenever I get the chance.Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!!

Reply:Nice. I've got a drum just waiting for the same project. Have to find some nice sized pipe though first.
Reply:Looks good! I built a grinder stand from an old truck rim. The problem is the vibration of the grinder makes the stand walk across the floor, I think it's too light.Do you have that problem?

Reply:Thanks for the tips, guys.  I have a 3/4 horse grinder and my stand is made from an F-350 rear drum.   Only way to keep it from walking is to put my foot on the drum while I'm grinding.   I'll try what you suggest... Reply:a truck brake drum weighs about 100 pounds or so, your pickup drum weighs much less....turn it upside down and pour some concrete in it and let it set up.......then weld the washer idea on it.....just a thought....If you see me running for no apparent reason, try to keep up:"Reality" What a concept!Miller Big 40 {1972} vintage, with 150 ft. of 000 leads, old Alaskan pipline welder.
