gambled on a cornwell ct 140 welder at a garage estate sale.took it home 100 bucks thought it being a cornwell it would be like other welders from high end tool dealers who put there stickers on flimsy generic machines.like snapoff mac and others.so it came with 2 large lincoln spools flux and solid wire thats almost 100 right there and it came with the pop up regulator .looks like a newer gun was added, large type.brand?? so i tested it good penitration.suprise!! it reads duty rating 100%whaatt.? sounds good to me .it has the out side cables pos neg you can go mig or flux .spool gun/ tig ready!! arc weld also.its sitting next to my miller sidekick this has the same blue color simular look but made beefier.from arrgh..like a tank! extra heavy guage steel case, heavy industrial quality wheels those are 20 a pop at the hardware stores.this machine looks a good 20+years old anybody know what miller this is from or what era its from.worth keeping?100%duty rating in a 115machine, is this possible?
Reply:cornwell is made by a company call Systematics that prides themselves on 100% duty cycle machines across their product line. Im not sure if this is a legitimate claim of a marketing scheme. Reply:This is from the manual of the welder in the link posted above:NOTEThe maximum output of the FM140A will be limited by the size (amp rating) ofthe circuit used.Operation on a 15 amp circuit (14 gauge wire) will limit maximumoutput to 100 amps.Operation on a 20 amp circuit (12 gauge wire) will limit maximumoutput to 120 amps.Operation on a 30 amp circuit (10 gauge wire) will result in maximumoutput of 140 amps.FM140A output will be limited also by low input voltage (less than 120 volts),long input cords and use of extension cords.

Reply:yeah ill post a pic in a few days, its a curiosity might be entertaining for everyone to see.thanks for the help guys. also.i havnt had time to investigate much of the insides.i want to clean the dust debri inside.so far the gun reads SYSTAMATICS.looking at the drive wheel and assemblys its heavier duty then my lincoln 140hd. looks pretty industrial quality.crazy-heavy.not very portable.i used a ramp to load on/out of my truck.save the back for the jobsite.im still wondering how old this thing is. |
