Lets see If I can get this pic uploaded. As stated Just got a brand new tig machine, never welded before in my life and  am planning on tackling some money making projects for racecars, mud trucks, tractors and i hope alot of aluminum things. Tell me where I should start!! I think my first project might be a trailer for a friend and a receiver hitch for my truck.
Reply:Let me keep you from getting torn apart.  If you never welded before in your life, don't even think about making a trailer, trailer hitch, racecars, crawlers, etc...You won't be good enough period.  You'll endanger your life and others.  You need to learn, this means practice, education, seat time, more practice, more practice more practice more practice, etc... until you are good enough to even start to think about welding on something that could hurt someone.Make your next 100 or so posts pictures of welds, fillets, butt joints, flat, vertical, overhead, etc... and ask for and accept input and adjust appropriately to the criticism.  We'll help you learn, but we aren't going to help you kill someone by welding on something critical when you don't know sh1t.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Well you should first start by learning how to weld, then once you have perfected your craft then you may begin charging for it. Id recommend starting small, weld some coupons and go from there, you need to get to where you can make a nice bead with it first, not to mention a strong bead. If it was as easy as buying a machine and hanging a sign with your name on it, everyone would do it.

Anyway I am no good welder just enjoy sticking metal together and know that I am not saving the world one weld at a time. But still enjoy the aluminum pictures and projects. IM NEW HERE

Reply:Man you guys are brutal, but all true.I would start with a good ole stick welder, learn the mig then go to the tig if needed. This is like flying a F-16 before a kite.Tig welding is a skill that takes years to master and be good enough to "sell" anything. Although tig will work for any welding, it is seldom the best choice for any kind of time or production work. Unless doing something that requires the tig over any other process.Where should you start? Buy a used buzzbox off ebay and 500lbs of 6010 and 500 lbs of 7018.When that is all gone come back. Wax on wax off.Last edited by moose13; 06-03-2011 at 07:25 PM.

But im sure cute welders are alot like coondogs that are showdogs, they dont really mean much until coons are the judge. this was all in fun and I got some enjoyment out of peoples computer mentalities. like I said earlier im not trying to save the world one weld at a time, i just get a kick out of the people who are, so anything that could be said about my ability I wont sweat to much, but your right about not quiting my day job I would hate to have to find another GE Aviation Materials to weld for.
