In layman's terms, can you tell me the differences and uses for the various 6010 type rods?5P, +P, etc.? Is there a preferred choice for pipe vs. plate? Also, if you prefer one manufacturer over another and what makes them different? Thanks, AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:In 6010 I have only used McKay and I like it alot although I have nothing to compare it to. I believe the 5P is standard 6010 and 5P+ has a smoother looking bead. I will be trying them both when I use up the McKay."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Many welders prefer 5P (6010) to 5P+. Many prefer the +. One is red, one is gray. Basically the same cellulose flux. I use whatever brand is furnished by the contractor, for personal use I like the 6011 made by Lincoln. Same rod but is AC/DC and doesn't seem to splatter as badly as the other two. I use a 1972 SA200 or 1949 Shorthood, both vacuum idle, and neither much care what rod I'm using, butter smooth any brand!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches |
